The following are some experiences I wanted to share with you.
The Medium
Currently my medium of choice are pencil and acrylic paints. A pencil and a piece of paper is the simplest and at the same time the most profound medium imaginable. Black, white and different levels of gray can weave something so sophisticated and you really feel that colors are totally unnecessary. There are enough details in a pencil sketch to clearly reveal the emotions of the artist but not so much to restrict the imagination of the viewer. This effect really intrigues me, how could something so simple touch people in such a powerful way?
I'm using acrylic paints for now because they dry very fast and save me a lot time, sometimes I found they dry too fast and this made blending colors more difficult. I still believe oil paints are the only choice to pull off a real masterpiece, they are the best medium to render lights and skin tone.
The Process
The process of creations starts with a sparkle of light in your mind that illuminates the darkness and emptyness, a glance, a piece of memory sometimes produce such a sparkle of intuition. Michelangelo looked inside the marble to see the statue. He said - "I saw the statue in the marble, and carved until I set it free." Once the process has begun an image is created that gains clarity on its own, any attempt to control it will only destroy it. I have to let it go and just let it happen.
